Tips for Left Handed Artists using Pastel Pencils
One of our members Yvonne is left handed and sent in this question:"Hi, I have struggled for years with pastel pencils but watching Colin has suddenly made me realise that I cannot comfortably do the strokes the way he does because I am left handed. If you had anyone in the studio who is left handed it would be lovely to see a demo. Meanwhile I am going to try to do the strokes in the opposite direction as Colin."Over the years there have been many of my students that are left handed. When I ran my weekly art classes in Broadstairs they would come along and work along without a problem. Now this was an in person class so there is some assistance that can be given when working out the techniques in the opposite hand.A great tip I have for those using their left hand and watching my videos would be to watch them in a mirror. This way you can see the direction of strokes and techniques using the opposite hand.Because I approach my pictures from left to right, I would recommend left handed artists to approach their work from right to left.I can understand that starting out and following a video with the opposite hand will take getting your head around but I assure you that once you have the techniques down you will be able to follow and get results. Are you a left handed artist following Colin's videos?
