Michaela sent in this question recently and I felt that it more than deserved a blog post."Hi Colin, do you think I will be able to have the confidence to create my own work after following your pictures? I ask because I am confident when following along with you but when I have to do something for myself, I don't get the shading etc. right! I can produce some ok work but it's more by fluke than knowledge."[fusion_builder_container hundred_percent="yes" overflow="visible"][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type="1_1" background_position="left top" background_color="" border_size="" border_color="" border_style="solid" spacing="yes" background_image="" background_repeat="no-repeat" padding="" margin_top="0px" margin_bottom="0px" class="" id="" animation_type="" animation_speed="0.3" animation_direction="left" hide_on_mobile="no" center_content="no" min_height="none"]artists block cartoon by Tom PrestonThank you for your question, let me say straight away that you will certainly be able to draw and paint your own works of art in time following the pastel pencil techniques we teach. The reason I can say this with confidence is that thousands of my students throughout the world are doing just that. You mentioned that you sometimes get it right when doing your own pictures but feel that it could be 'just a fluke' in your words. I went through a similar experience many years ago when I started out and I too was concerned that I would not be able to repeat this success. I decided to just go for it and test myself. This paid off and I never looked back. What you must realise is that you are learning with each stroke of the pencil and this experience is stored away within you. The more you do, the more you learn - this is a fact. In time you will gain in confidence and develop self belief that will enable you to confidently tackle your own pictures. We will talk further about this excellent question on our podcast where I will discuss this more fully, make sure you listen tune in!How do find tackling your own artwork after following Colin's tutorials? Let us know in the comments below.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
