black labrador pastel pencil painting by colin bradleyWhen making a dog look young it’s all to do with the hairs.  Simply put, old dogs have a lot of grey hairs.  The difference between putting white pastel pencil on for the hair and putting white on for the shine is that the shine is smooth.  If you have a young dog there will quite a lot of shine as the coat would be glossy.  I recommend going easy with the grey hairs on an older dog thought, don’t do too many. You can learn how to do shine on a young dog by purchasing our Black Labrador Workshop Pack or watching our pastel pencil tutorials on this website.
