Drawing Children in Pastel Pencils Part 5

child hand pastel pencilsLike hairs, hands are tricky to do. Add to that these hands belong to young children and that adds to the difficulty. There are only two hands in this picture and one of them has only the thumb showing which is a bonus. However the key to success here is to take your time, take regular breaks and constantly refer to the reference picture. I used sharp pastel pencils to create the fine detail here, in the case of the cuticle and white section at the top of the finger nail the pencil points were needle sharp. The arms were easier as I used the same colours and techniques I had for the two children's face.
