Drawing a Horse's Mane in Pastel Pencils

Wendy has sent me this photo of a Horse’s mane and would like to know the colours she should use.picture of a horses dark brown maneAlthough this looks to be a brown mane brown is not the colour you would start with. I would use 273 warm grey to start the ball rolling. Then colours such as 179, 180 and 175 would follow.[fusion_builder_container hundred_percent="yes" overflow="visible"][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type="1_1" background_position="left top" background_color="" border_size="" border_color="" border_style="solid" spacing="yes" background_image="" background_repeat="no-repeat" padding="" margin_top="0px" margin_bottom="0px" class="" id="" animation_type="" animation_speed="0.3" animation_direction="left" hide_on_mobile="no" center_content="no" min_height="none"]Faber-Castell Pitt Pastel Pencil ChartThe grey would give the browns an earthy tone and the 175 would continue to tone down the browns when put on last, the grey colour shaper could be used lightly to blend in the colours. After that a little 199 black could be applied and then 270 (grey) could be applied to create the light sheen on top as seen in the reference photo. All these colours are suggestions only and should be practiced on spare paper before being used on the painting. To learn how to draw horses using pastel pencils or get advice on your pictures, sign up to Colin Bradley Art.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
